I don't know what to tell you. I'd really like to share a story of one of the most perfect places in America, but I don't want anyone getting jealous...

What's that? go ahead, you say. Well... just this once.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls let me tell you about a magical place called the Mai Kai.

Once upon a time in the United States, bars were opened as a tribute to the Polynesian culture. There were torches and tropical drinks, flowers and tiki statues. These places were called tiki bars.

With Hawaii entering the union in 1959, tiki bars were popular. There were thatched roofs and Les Baxter played in the background. there are too few of these places left now. They are being closed to open Walmart Supercenters and Walgreen's locations.

Never fear... one of the most magnificent is still going strong and doesn't show any sign of stopping. There is a picture of the Mai Kai above but it does little to tell you just how wondeful it is to be there. There were hula girls and guys dancing with fire. There was a band beating drums and flowers in our drinks. We drank from coconuts, pineapples and tiki heads. There was a garden filled with palm trees and tiki statues with waterfalls running through it. The bar was set up as a boat and had water running over the windows and thunder sounding in the distance.

Gee it was fun. I still can't believe it. For more tiki - go here there are more links than i know what to do with.
